I have officially launched America’s 1st Online Soccer Academy! I think the Academy is awesome and a great way for youth players of all ages to learn the game of soccer online and on their own time. Features include 2-3 training videos a month players watch via the internet, private profile pages, personal juggling charts, game review forms to track team and player statistics, message center so players can message me, chance to win a $1,000 college scholarship, and much more! Its safe and private for members and parents don’t have to drive anywhere for this soccer practice!!
Don’t worry I haven’t forgotten about my readers who are not youth soccer players and are to old for the academy! The new site will have plenty of free public content. The blog, MontzTV, and my new podcast series will be available to all on the new site.
So come on over and check out www.jmsoccer10.com!! It is time to make history!!
Today was favorite joke day at camp in Shreveport, Louisiana! It was a cold one so I didn’t get a chance to work my camera phone because of my numb fingers but I didn’t manage to get one pic. Here are a couple of the jokes that made me laugh. Enjoy!
Raleigh’s joke was…. Why couldn’t the golfer wear his socks??? ———– because he had a hole in one!!
Matt’s joke was……. How do you light up a soccer field???? —— Strike a soccer match!!!
Player’s name I didn’t get…… Knock Knock – who’s there? - Interrupting cow – Interrupting cow … mooooooo (she interrupted me in when I said it in case that didn’t make sense.)
Hope you enjoyed a few of the jokes. Share your thoughts in the comment section and let me know which one you like best.
Yesterday I did an interview on a public cable TV station in my home town of Mandeville, Louisiana. If you live around Mandeville you should be able to see the show starting on the 15th of January on channel 13. I spoke with the producer and hopefully in the next few days I will be able to get a copy of it and post it on MontzTV so you can see the interview even if you are not in southern Louisiana. It will be on MontzTV and the blog as soon as I get it, I promise. The guy who interviewed me, Steve, is a funny character. Every time I go in there, now I seem to be a regular, he is always making me laugh. This time he was saying that mom should be on stand by in case I mess up on air. I wasn’t in town the last time I was supposed to be on the show so I had my mom/marketing director/volunteer fill in for me. She did a great job and he couldn’t stop talking about her. I guess I should have her do all my interviews!!
Training has been going good lately and I am just excited to be getting close to being on a team again. This week I started my own two a days to get even more ready for pre season which is coming up towards the end of January. I am not sure what team I will be trying out for, but what I do know is I will be ready when they call. Last night the field I play at was closed due to rain so I was training on a field with not much light. All I had for light was street lights in the distance. I do not recommend you train in the dark, but I have been on that field a lot lately and I know where the holes are. Usually I am very self motivated when training and do not take to many breaks. That session I don’t think I took any breaks thanks to the Louisiana mosquitoes that swarmed me every time I stopped moving. Trust me, that is a good reason to keep running!!
I have my last camp of the winter coming up in Shreveport this weekend so between training, camps, and my new project I am working on I am real busy these days. Stay posted as this blog should be getting real exciting in the next few weeks.
Today at camp was favorite jersey day and favorite joke day. We had to combine the two due to weather issues canceling camp the day before. These are some of the favorites the coaches and I picked out. LOL!
The Rookies group striking a pose
In the 5-6 year old group this is what some of them came up with.
Alex’s joke was, “Why is Pirates of the Caribbean rated R?” ……. because all the Pirates say RRRRRR!
Luke’s jokes were, “What does the ice say to the water?”…… you crack me up!
”How long does the mummy stay in the hospital after its bandages are removed?”…… until it has recovered!
“Why did the man stick is money in the freezer?”……. because he wanted Cold Hard Cash!
The Dreamers group
This is the 8-9 year old group at camp; below are their jokes.
Mackenzie’s joke is, “What is the best place to shop for a soccer jersey?”…….. New Jersey!
I can’t remember whose joke this is but my guess is it is one of the boys. ”Why did the kid throw up?”………. because he wanted his leftovers!!
The Future Pros staying cool
These are the 11-12 year olds in camp. My cousin happened to have the best joke in this group. She is a cajun from outside of Lafayette, Louisiana in a town called New Iberia. Her joke is off a book of jokes from the Boudreaux and Thibodeaux series. Those two are cajun names and supposed to represent some goofy cajuns!
Janzen’s joke is, “Boudreaux and Thibodeaux were walking to Lafayette then they came upon a sign that said Lafayette left so they turned around and went home”
I hope you enjoyed these jokes! Favorite joke day at camp is one of my favorite days because the kids usually come up with some good ones. Share your thoughts in the comment section and let me know which joke you like best or if you have a joke yourself that you think could cut it at favorite joke day!
Props to the US Men’s National team on a great year and some good goals. Enjoy this video that was well put together by the media team at US Soccer. Keep up the good work!
The past week or so since I have been home I have been training every morning with my buddy, Stephen Beatty. He plays soccer at University of Montevallo and is a freshman. He is a good player and a great training buddy, but everyday he shows up I give him a hard time about his ride and wanted to see what my readers think. Check out the pic below and answer on the poll what you think! Post a comment if you feel the need to make a funny statement; I will be sure and let him know!!
Below are two highlight videos of the Male and Female US Soccer Athletes of the year for 2008! Congrats toTim Howard and Carli Lloyd! These two players believe in it and our accomplishing great things in their careers. Keep up the good work you two!
This past weekend was my first soccer camp of the winter 2008/09 winter camps season. I love coaching and every camp seems to always have some kind of first. This camp was no different as 5 inches of snow in Louisiana forced me to switch field locations. Snow in the South closing fields; that’s a first! Thankfully the group was fine with switching locations to keep the camp on schedule. The odd thing was at the time of camp it was 70 degrees! Gotta love Louisiana winters!!
Camp was only a weekend two day camp, but I felt the kids learned a lot and now have some good exercises to work on the rest of the winter. Coaching soccer is definitely the next best thing to playing. Sitting this year out and not playing was difficult, but thankfully coaching helped keep me sane through the process! I teach the kids the soccer smarts, skills, and techniques I have now that I wish I could have had at their age. I get a kick out of seeing them coming in as players and leaving as young professionals. Being a pro is about having that attitude of working hard day in and day out to get better, always striving to reach your goals, and believing in yourself even when no one else thinks you have a chance. I tell my campers its not about driving fancy cars and making millions of dollars; being a good pro is a state of mind!
Below are a couple of pics from the camp. Special thanks to my sponsors Humana, Pelican Atheltic Club, Postnet, and Montz’s Washer and Dryer Repair for helping me to put on this camp!!
Sporting the Montz Camo shirt and Believe in it sweatband!
The Men’s D1 National Championship is set for Sunday at 1pm Eastern time on ESPN2. UNC will take on Maryland. Be sure and check it out and watch some of the country’s finest college players go at it to win the title. I will be coaching at my camp during the game so I will miss it so be sure and post a comment and let me know how it goes. Don’t have the DVR yet! My boy and old teammate Logan Pause, Chicago Fire Veteran, is a UNC alumni and he won a National Championship with them in 2001 I believe. Check him out on MontzTV.
Back in my day I was fortunate enough to play on a great team with an awesome group of guys at Lynn University. December 7, 2003 we won an undefeated National Championship; 22-0-1. That one tie I actually scored the game winning goal and the ref called it back because he called a foul. A foul for me, not against me! Apparently he had never heard of the advantage rule (don’t worry I told him after). Some of the boys that are still living in the South Florida area celebrated our 5 year anniversary on Friday night. Great times and great memories with those guys. Keep riding the wave boys and I look forward to making it to the 10 year anniversary.
Lynn University 2003 Undefeated National Champions!
Championship Ring
Enjoy the match on Sunday and be sure and watch the trophy celebration after wards. Watch the players celebrate and imagine what it feels like. It motivates me to see players celebrate a championship. I get goosebumps thinking about lifting a trophy capping off all the hard work it takes to get there. That is what I play for; Championships!
Last night I had the pleasure of being the announcer at the Fountainbleau High School boys and girls soccer games. The opportunity came up thanks to the boy’s coach, Coach Ditchendorf, giving me a call and asking if I would like to do it. He is a friend of mine and as always endorsed my soccer camps from day one so I was happy to do it.
The night before I practiced my GOOOOOAAAALLLLL shout a few times to make sure I was up to par. If I do something I like to do it right so I had to practice. Thank goodness I did because I ended up saying GOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLL 22 times in two games! Thank you to the boys and girls FHS Bulldawgs who made that possible. I can now check that dream off the to do list! Coach Cary Hotard of the girls and Coach Ditchendorf coached great games and their efforts showed justice on the score sheet. The field looked amazing by the way; I’m a bit jealous becuase I don’t remember them looking like that in my day.
A few of my pre-college soccer camp alumni played in the game and did me proud! Peyton Adkins, Ben Saterlee, Ryan Fox, Dylan Pearsson, and Andrew Tykol. Keep up the good work boys!
On a personal note, at the game I got a flasback bring me back to Louisiana public school .95 cent lunch when I treated myself to a Frito Pie at the snack bar. It was phenomanal. If you like Fritos, Chili, and Cheese you would love a Frite Pie! They mix it all up together and man is it good!
